Pickleball Court Rules
Except when courts are being used for scheduled programs sponsored by the Recreation Department, pickleball courts at Richardson Scale Park and all dual-use courts are open daily from Dawn to Dusk.
Courts are open daily from 8:00 a.m. – Dusk.
Pickleball ONLY courts require a current Clifton Pickleball Program Badge. (Pickleball program badges are only required for individuals ages 18 and up).

  • Clifton Pickleball Program Badges must be worn and visible on players, while on the pickleball only courts, at all times. Badges are non-transferable. Spot checks will be conducted periodically by City of Clifton representatives.
  • Courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis for ONE HOUR maximum court time use, unless the courts are empty.
  • Respect for all players must be shown at all times. Players are requested to observe pickleball court etiquette both on and around the courts. Please be respectful of everyone’s right to play.
  • Play on the courts should be doubles, unless there are no players waiting. One player may not hold or occupy a court alone if a waiting line exists. We recommend using the Paddle Rack Queue for court rotation.
  • Pickleball courts are to be used for pickleball play only and cannot be used for athletic coaching or lessons other than those set up by the Clifton Recreation Department. No individual, group, club or organization shall occupy the courts for private leagues or tournament play. The City of Clifton shall have priority use of courts for sponsored activities.
  • Lessons/Clinics are offered by the Clifton Recreation Department in the Spring, Summer and Fall. Registration for these programs can be found at www.cliftonrec.com or call (973) 470-5956 for additional information.
  • Courts should only be used when courts are dry. During the winter months, snow removal is not conducted and the unauthorized use of snow/ice removal equipment (including shovels or brooms) or chemicals is prohibited. Any violation will result in the closure of the courts for the winter season.
  • No animals permitted on the courts.
  • No bicycles, skateboards, scooters, hoverboards, skates, carriages, radio-controlled toys, or any other wheeled devices are permitted on the courts.
  • Only athletic, court-type shoes are allowed on the courts.
  • Shirts are required.
  • No smoking, vaping, food, glass or alcoholic beverages.
  • Chairs or tables are not permitted on courts.
  • No profanity, bullying, or abusive behavior permitted.
  • Music is permitted, but shall not be offensive or bothersome to other players.
  • All trash shall be placed in proper receptacles, which will be kept outside of the Pickleball Arena. Users shall leave the facility in the same condition in which it was found, or better. Please keep our courts clean. Do not abuse the nets or other equipment.
Rules and Regulation are subject to change by authority of the Clifton Recreation Department.
