The Art of Small Talk Workshop for Adults
Small talk matters. It turns awkward conversations into memorable connections. The Art of Small Talk emphasizes the daily need for small talk in our lives. The origins and types of small talk will be discussed as well as how to best incorporate micro small talk into our everyday routines. As a result participants will increase their confidence, like ability, and credibility. The Art of Small Talk involves improv-like activities. During the interactive presentation, participants will be able to introduce themselves to someone in the group they do not know. They will be able to ask a thoughtful question and share a short story about themselves. Participants will report out on how they felt about engaging in these partnered activities. The discussion is then focused on how to start a conversation, stand out to be remembered and shape how other people view us. Power cues, warmth/competence balance, body language and vocal expression will all be discussed. These skills will help in work situations, networking, job-hunting and seeking meaningful relationships - professional, personal and romantic. Tips and resources to incorporate daily small talk will be offered. Instruction by Theresa Fierro. Limit is 12 participants per workshop.
About the instructor:
Theresa Fierro is a semi-retired educator who enjoys working in the gig economy. Currently a freelance presenter, radio show host, forest bathing leader, brand ambassador, fun time fanatic, and network connector. She holds a Master's Degree in teaching, and teaches English as a second language, professional etiquette, mindfulness practice, prioritizing through time management, optimizing oral and written communications, adulting, setting intentions in the third act of life, and forest bathing.
