Food Smarts Kids - Youth

Food Smarts Kids is an interactive, learner-centered curriculum for nutrition educators bringing programs to audiences throughout the United States. Each week a different lesson will be taught about various topics which are included below.  This program is FREE but pre-registration is required.  Participants may register for all 4 lessons or pick and choose which ones they would like to attend. Instruction by:  Community Food Bank of NJ. Limit is: 25 per class. 
 
Lesson Topics:

Week 1- What is on a healthy plate?
- An overview of MyPlate and how to eat a balanced diet from all 5 food groups and maintain great health.

Week 2- Increasing Fruit and Vegetable Consumption - A lesson on the powerful benefits and importance of eating a variety and range of colors of fruits and vegetables.

Week 3- Understanding Labels and Ingredients - A detailed breakdown of the Nutrition Facts Label, how to read it in the grocery stores, and what important things to pay attention to and look out for.

Week 4- Best Practices for Healthy Living: Rethink your Drink - A lesson on the impact and long-term effects of sugar including an activity on the amount of sugar in some popular beverages and alternatives to sugary beverages.
